Holiday traditions

Forty years ago, Charles Chemes' wish for a red Christmas tree to celebrate his Mexican heritage was fulfilled when the Batavia Water Department surprised him with one, fully lit, on display for all to see. The annual red tree remains a Batavia tradition today. Charlie’s tree is symbolic of the importance of tradition to family and heritage.
