Wednesdays At The Plaza Reimagined For Summer Concerts
Wednesdays at the Plaza has become a fun summer activity for locals in downtown Aurora. Over the past few years, Aurora Downtown has hosted the free, summer concerts on Wednesday evenings at Millennium Plaza on Stolp Avenue.
This year, the nonprofit group is reimagining the community concerts so that everyone can enjoy them while following Phase 4 public health guidelines.
The concert series will continue outdoors at downtown businesses and museums instead of at the city-owned plaza, and they will be live-streamed on social media.
After the city’s Special Events team said they weren’t approving any events until September, the group looked at creative ways to keep the concert series going.
Aurora Downtown reached out to businesses with ample outdoor space including Tredwell Coffee and Wyckwood House, SciTech Hands On Museum, and Society 57.
“They all said they’d be happy to host outdoor concerts this summer,” said Marissa Amoni, manager of Aurora Downtown. “The series is an important way for us to connect with the community and support local musicians,” she said.
Starting on July 8, the concert series will kick off with Mirabelle and The Paper Boats with opener Demi Clara. The concerts are from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be live-streamed on Aurora Downtown’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
Performances will include August West on July 15, The Darling Suns with opener Ben Patrick on July 22, Luis and I with opener Emily Martinez on July 29, Aurora Latin Band on August 5, and Accidentally on Purpose on August 12.
The concerts will have limited audience members, and are not open to the public unless otherwise noted on the Facebook invite. Depending on the venue, there will be some outdoor audience overflow areas.
