Batavia's Farmer's Market opens to a masked flow of faithful patrons

Saturday, June 30, Batavia - A month ago the Batavia Farmer's Market seemed doomed along with so many other local events.  But with healthy trends prevailing, and with all the necessary safety precautions in place the market opened for business this morning. Situated on River Street between Wilson and State Streets on the East side of the Fox River in downtown Batavia, this carefully designed event is a symbol of hope as the region and the country tip toes back to normalcy.

Vendors and customers alike seemed anxious to get out in the fresh air and stay safe.  Not a single unmasked face could be found among the growing crowd of shoppers this morning.  Here is a list of the vendors that participated:

FARMERS’ MARKET MISSION:

The Batavia Farmers’ Market is a Batavia MainStreet program. Batavia MainStreet is a not-for-profit, community-based organization devoted to enhancing our downtown as the heart of the community through dedicated volunteer efforts. The mission of the Batavia Farmers’ Market, and its sponsor Batavia MainStreet, is to enrich our small-town community values, stimulate our local economy at a grassroots level, and educate residents and those in our extended community of the value of wholesome, hand-crafted and nutritionally valuable food. Additionally, our interest is to support locally produced non-food products including but not limited to plants, fiber, and products derived of animal products (i.e. soaps, textiles, etc.). Our goal encompasses the notion of creating a community-driven social destination as an educational, recreational and healthy resource. The purpose of the Batavia Farmers’ Market is to provide a retail outlet for local producers; fresh, local products for consumers; and a gathering place that encourages a sense of community. This farm market features produce, baked goods, artisan products, plants, honey and related farm products. Our vendors grow, harvest and/or produce up to 75% of market products.
