SciTech Hands On Museum Unveils Pressurized Rockets
An exciting new exhibit is being introduced this coming week to guests on the main floor at SciTech Hands On Museum. At the center of our newest exhibit stands a nearly 3 story tall rocket ship that soars to the top of our indoor skylight! With the increase in rocket launches and space flight once again at the center of our imaginations, now is the perfect time to create excitement and wonder about spaceflight and the exploration of the stars!
Guests will be able to use the three launch stations around the main rocket to experiment using air pressure to send smaller scale rockets into the air. Complete with lights, sounds, video and interactive elements this will allow visitors of all ages to be in command of mission control for their very own journey into the heavens.
“This is the first of our new exhibits to be installed in 2020,” Camille Coller, the museum’s Director of Operations, explained. “There are plans for at least two more major re-imagined areas this spring. This will include a completely redone area for our popular bubble exploration and a brand new set of exhibits on weather and climate”
The exhibit was designed by an Aurora-based design firm, and the giant aluminum rocket was fabricated by Jake's Inc. a long time local company here in Aurora, IL. "This is a great exhibit for children," said Arlene Hawks, the museum's executive director. "We are grateful for the financial support of the Grand Victoria Riverboat Fund and our Aurora aldermen. We couldn't have done this without them."
The public is invited to the exhibit ribbon cutting at 6 pm on Friday, March 6, 2020. The main floor will be open for free exploration from 5 pm to 8 pm in collaboration with Aurora Downtown’s First Friday’s.
