Aurora - Come out to the 10th annual Aurora GreenFest on September 28 at the Prisco Community Center , 150 W. Illinois, Aurora 60506 from 10am to 4pm and learn about caring for the environment through fun filled activities. The GreenFest is an event accessible to all ages.
This year the festival’s theme celebrates ten years with “10 Climate Conversations in the Big Tent.” The event is all about the top ten ways to care for the environment and will feature examples of renewable energy, recycling, energy efficiency, home grown food, all-electric cars and more.
The IBEW Solar Roadshow is coming to the festival. This “museum on wheels” will present information all about renewable energy like wind and solar. The rig is covered in solar panels on top that will demonstrate the making of clean electricity, as well as drive a solar-powered concert.
The Festival will also feature a Green Car Show that showcases completely homemade converted vintage electric cars and trucks. Fun and educational Nature Exhibits are included for children and will host learning on a number of creatures including bats, eagles, bees, skunks, turtles and lizards.
Don’t forget to check out the Aurora GreenFest Greeters’ Booth for a copy of their program and where a sustainability pledge can be signed. At the booth everyone can receive a free canvas bag with original artwork by local artist Chris Hodge as well as a free reusable silicone straw and scrub brush. Adding to the celebration will be live music and food trucks.
The festival is organized by Aurora GreenLights, an affiliate of The Conservation Foundation. The Dunham Fund serves this year’s festival as the main sponsor, keeping alive John C. Dunham’s dream of “making the world a more comfortable, safer place for mankind to live and prosper.”
The GreenFest is a free event, so come have fun and learn with the whole family.
