Block Party, Live Art at First Fridays on August 2

Aurora - First Fridays on August 2 welcomes a block party to the night of art, music and community in downtown Aurora.

Enjoy food trucks, live music, live art, vendors, and more at the Stolp Block Party from 6-10pm. The party closes Stolp Avenue from Downer Place to Galena Boulevard. Saint Astro and Glad Rags perform at the gazebo at Millennium Plaza.

August’s First Fridays is also celebrating its first Sidewalk Chalk Day. Enjoy a variety of sidewalk chalk art and create your own chalk designs at various businesses.

Food vendors include My Funnel, Grumpy Gaucho, Don Pez Fish Tacos, Burritoville, and Wurst Kitchen.

Please note that food trucks will all be parked on Stolp Avenue for the block party and that the First Fridays’ Food Truck Food Court at Water Street Square will return on September 6.

Enjoy several venues open to the public. Free trolley rides from 6-10pm.

Mission Possible, 63 S. Broadway, will host a Gospel graffiti Art Show with Milton Coronado Coffee and snacks will be available. 7-10pm

Gary Brown Art Gallery, 7 S. Broadway, will be open with “Summer Fun,” an exploration of mixed media, drawings, and photography by Gary Brown. Bill Austin will be showing paintings and 3-D assemblage art creations. Live music by Musical Expressions. 6-10pm

Aurora Tap House, 134 W. Downer Pl., will host “The SpongeBob SquarePants Invitational,” a tribute show to Stephen Hillenburg creator of Spongebob Squarepants, Chicago area artists including Keps, Taylor Wilkes, Lita Lu, Deepayan Bose, Alfredo Castil, and more were invited to create artwork inspired by the show. 7-10pm

The ArtBar at Two Brothers Roundhouse, 205 N. Broadway, will feature “ The Lit Show - Chapter 2.” Hear Authors share readings from their work and see their words brought to life by local artists. In partnership with the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association. 7-12am

Arcana Studios, 5 1/2 W. Downer Pl., will be open with “The Softness Show,” an intimate candle lit poetry reading and open mic with visual art curated around the theme of softness. Bring a pillow to sit on and come get soft. Show starts at 8:30pm, followed by an open mic around 9:30pm.

All Spoked Up, 14 W. Downer Suite 12, will host the Local Artist Extravaganza. 6-9pm

Premil, 46 W. New York St., will be open with “Wine Tasting & Live Art.” The community will be provided with a blended experience that involves wine tasting from a variety of wines, as well as, a live painting competition performed by local Aurora artists. Entry fee is $10. 6-9pm

The Neighbor Project, 32 S. Broadway, will host a live art event with the completion of a 50-foot mural by Catherine Tilly in the courtyard with food, music, and kids activities. Free admission; $1 tacos. 5-8pm

Balderas Beauty Salon, 25 N. Broadway, will host “The Airbrush Show,” live body painting by José Art and art by Damon Rowley. 5-9pm

Do or Dye Designs, 24 S. Stolp Ave., will host “Paint Your Glass Off,” an evening of glassware painting. Paint glassware for $15 or two for $25. 5-9pm

If These Walls Could Talk, 32 S. Stolp Ave., will host “Block Party Art.” In addition to the live art happening on the street, they will have a selection of works from the participating artists on display in the gallery. 7-10pm

Pure Skin Solutions, 26 S. Stolp Ave., will be open with “Redeem Yourself, Redeem Your Skin: Redeemed Art By Kathryn Brown” plus a $5 special facial wax. 5:30-9pm

The Venue, 21 S. Broadway, will open with “Bootleg T-Shirt Show” and a movie. Rare and vintage concert t-shirt exhibition. Surprise movie night starts at 8. 6-10pm

Tredwell Coffee, 14 W. Downer Pl. Suite 18, will be open with local art and music. Music by Shady Play. A jazzy pop trio that is sure to please. Art by Sandy Werner. Beautiful art work that will transform the shop. 5-9pm

Endiro Coffee, 29 W. New York St., will feature music by Olivia Ports and art by Mallory Sharp. 6-9pm

Santori Public Library, 101 S. River St., will host a teacher open house. Teachers are VIPs, and families are welcome. Test databases, investigate classroom resources, tour Makerspace, meet staff, and greet your colleagues. Tour a school bus in the parking lot. 5-7pm

Christian Science Reading Room, 34 S. Stolp Ave., will be open with “Make art under the tent.” Arts and craft supplies to create your own unique artwork. 6-9pm

G.A.R. Memorial Museum, 23 E. Downer Pl., will be open to tour. Learn about Aurora's involvement in the American Civil War. 5-9pm

Branch Gardens, 77 S. Lake St., will feature a special night of table setting with plants. Plants, beverages, food, and great presentations about table settings using your plants for entertaining. 5:30-9:30pm.

Aurora Historical Society, 20 E. Downer Pl. 2nd floor, will be open with “Aurora Story,” a walk-through history of Aurora since 1834. Visit the gift shop on the first floor. 6-9pm

Payton's Photography, 14 W. Downer Pl., rear Stolp entrance, will be open with a “Beat the Heat Photo Shoot.” Free digital photo. Email required for delivery of one image. 5-7pm

Fox Valley United Way, 44 E. Galena Blvd., will open for a special book drive for SPARK’s Fox Valley Little Libraries. They are one of three locations collecting children’s books for the community’s free little libraries which are going to be installed throughout the Aurora community. 5-8pm.

Paramount School of the Arts, 20 S. Stolp Ave., will be open with music, fun, trivia, and more. Enjoy a free Kindermusik Foundations class for up to 18 month olds at 5pm. A free Kindermusik Mixed Age class for ages six months to four years. Play an Aurora Trivia game at 8pm.

Aurora Regional Fire Museum, 53 N. Broadway, will be open for exploration at no cost. 5-9pm

Zen Loft Wellness Center, 6 W. Downer Pl., will feature yoga, performances, demos, vendors, and more. Enjoy a holistic sampler of yoga flows, belly dancing, chair massage, Reiki, and hammock meditation. 6-9pm

Wyckwood House, 14 W. Downer Pl. Suite 16, will offer a First Fridays luau. Live music from Karli Saner, tropical cocktails, and custom hand lettered items from The Letter J Creates. 5-9pm

Gillerson's Grubbery, 33 W. New York St., will be open with a “Burgers and Butts Fundraiser” and Tangled Roots Brewing Kick-Off. Join Gillerson's Grubbery and the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry as they kickoff their weekend-long fundraiser and diaper drive. Gillerson's will be donating half of the proceeds of the pantry’s crafted burger, The Pantry Phatty, and collecting packages of diapers, wipes, and diaper cream. Also joining in on the First Fridays fun will be Tangled Roots Brewing from Ottawa who is the Brewery of the Month for August. There will be specially priced Tangled Roots beer for everyone 21 and over to enjoy. 5-9pm

SciTech Hands On Museum, 18 W. Benton St., will be open with “Mission SciTech,” featuring science shows at 5-7pm. Also Girl Scout Troop 4785 will be selling refreshments for their upcoming trip to Walt Disney World. Kona Ice will be selling shaved ice to help support the mission of SciTech. SciTech will be a drop off site for SPARK's Fox Valley's Little Library book collection. 5-8pm
