North Aurora, IL - Through a generous grant from the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley, Maddie’s Mitten March is able to make critical repairs to the buses that distribute cold weather clothing to those is need throughout the area.

“We are very grateful to the Community Foundation for this grant” stated Madeline Bozik, President of Maddie’s Mitten March. “If it wasn’t for the Community Foundation I am not sure if we would have been able to conduct mobile distributions this year.”

Maddie's Mitten March utilizes retired school buses to distribute winter clothing throughout the Fox River Valley. The $8,000 grant from the Community Foundation will be used to make repairs to the existing 18 year old bus including rebuilding the steps and mechanical repairs. The remaining funds will be used to paint and convert a second retired school bus purchased from the St. Charles School District for a nominal fee.

“The assistance from our volunteers and partnerships with such groups as Marberry Cleaners, Arch Printing, Raimondo’s Pizza, North Aurora Fire Department and most recently Kards Inc. will allow us to maximize the grant,” stated Bozik. Over 5,000 pieces of winter clothing have been distributed since starting mobile distributions in 2015. Over 1,500 pieces have already been donated this season and more will be collected at upcoming donation events.
