Geneva, IL - On
Monday, November 12, each of Geneva’s middle schools will hold an all-school
ceremony honoring the individuals who have served our country. Students and staff
invited the veterans in their lives to these annual ceremonies. Members of the
media are also invited to interview participants and photograph the powerful events
as they unfold.
The events will take place at different times in each middle school. At Geneva Middle School North, 1357 Viking Drive, the ceremony will be at 8:30am in the Blue Gym. At Geneva Middle School South, 1415 Viking Drive, the ceremony will be at 8:45am in the Contest Gym.
Both events include students from the social studies classes and clubs, performances by the eighth-grade choirs, bands, and orchestras and speeches from numerous student speakers. At GMS North, Cpt. Van C. Stone, a decorated Vietnam veteran and Geneva resident, will deliver a keynote speech, “I Am An American Veteran … And I Was There,” addressed to both veterans and students. Veterans at GMS North are invited to submit photos ahead of the event for a photo story compilation that will be projected during the ceremony. At GMS South, veterans are invited to talk with students following the conclusion of the ceremonies during a continental breakfast in the cafeteria.
