Anderson Animal Shelter has joined over 4,000 other animal welfare agencies across the country, participating in the national “Home 4 the Holidays” adoption event which spans the months of October-December. The organization has a goal of finding forever homes for at least 1,000 pets during the campaign, and at 890 pets adopted so far since October 1st, they’re well on their way to reaching their goal.
“We are very excited to end 2017 with a bang! We want to get as many of these wonderful pets into forever homes as we can before the end of the year. They don’t belong in shelters, they belong with families. Since adult cats are the hardest group of pets to find homes for, we want to showcase our fabulous felines in this event, and that’s why we’re waiving their fees,” said Beth Drake, Anderson’s executive director. “In the past, people have questioned fee-waived adoptions, feeling that this devalues the pets. However, research conducted by the ASPCA and other national animal welfare groups has long shown that these fears are unfounded. People who adopt pets for free, whether through a fee-waived adoption event, from a friend or family member or because the pet showed up on their doorstep, love their pet no less than those who paid an adoption fee or purchased from a breeder or pet store. So, we invite everyone to come on out to one of our three adoption locations on the 23rd and bring home a new family member in time for the holidays!”
Every animal adopted from Anderson is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, examined by a veterinarian, and treated for internal and external parasites. Dogs over 6 months of age are also checked for heartworm and cats are tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. All adoptions also come with a free vet exam at a participating veterinary clinic and one month of free pet health insurance.
