Guy Bellaver – St. Charles
Guy Bellaver has been a working artist in St. Charles for over 30 years, having moved with his family to the community in 1985. He began to explore his interest in art after graduating college, pursuing classes in oil painting and sculpture.
“Sculpture immediately became my medium – and I found particular satisfaction in working with stone,” Bellaver said.
In the 40 years he has been a professional sculptor, Bellaver has worked in a variety of media—from stone to wood to metal.
“My work over four decades is eclectic, but shares a theme or style that is both organic and technical. Today, it is a bit less about shapes and more about energy,” Bellaver explained.
Bellaver’s sculptures range from “tabletop” to monumental pieces over 18 feet tall. He’s always been fascinated by the relationship of positive to negative spaces, and he said the relationship of art to the STEM disciplines has informed his artwork since his very first, extremely geometric stone sculptures.
Currently, Bellaver has a piece at the Fine Line Creative Art Center’s Inaugural Sculpture on the Prairie exhibition and at the Chicago Sculpture Exhibit, celebrating the Year of Public Art. In addition to over 20 pieces of public art, Bellaver’s work is in private collections around the country and in Europe.
