VFW invites you to a Loyalty Day picnic

There’s something for everyone at the Batavia VFW’s inaugural Loyalty Day Community Picnic on Sun., May 7 at VFW Post 1197. A catch and release family fishing derby opens the festivities at 10am with prizes for winners. FIB BBQ Caterers will roast a pig and provide all the fixings. The Batavia Community Band performs followed by country rock band Whiskey Romance. The Batavia Fire Department will bring a truck and exhibits. Games and more continue throughout the afternoon. Valley Sheltered Workshop holds annual pancake breakfast

Valley Sheltered Workshop will be holding its annual pancake breakfast on Sun., May 7 from 7:30am–12pm. They will be serving pancakes, sausage, strawberries/blueberries, coffee, orange juice and apple juice. Tickets are purchased at the door for $7 per person (children 3 and under are free). The Kane County Cougars 6th annual 5K Run/Walk is June 3

The Kane County Cougars have announced the 6th annual 5K Run/Walk will take place on Sat., June 3 at Northwestern Medicine Field. The charitable event will take on a new look from years past as the Cougars organization continues to grow their charitable outreach. Renamed the Cougars 5K: Honoring First Responders, a portion of the proceeds from the race will benefit the TriCity (Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles) Police and Fire Departments, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Forest Preserve District of Kane County Police Department. The Lions Club plant sale is May 13

On Sat., May 13 from 7am–2pm, hanging baskets with locally-grown flowers will be sold by Lion members from hay wagons. Proceeds will go towards a scholarship for a graduating Batavia senior going to college or trade school.

Green Drinks Batavia: Wildflower Walk at Fermilab

The Batavia Environmental Commission and Fermilab Natural Areas are partnering to bring you a Green Drinks event, Wed., May 10 from 6–8:30pm. Take a wildflower walk through Fermilab’s restored prairie and learn about the importance of native plants. Afterward, all are welcome to join the BEC and Fermilab employees at Fermilab’s very own Frontier Pub! You can learn more about what both groups are doing and how you can be involved.
