The St. Charles Chamber of Commerce staff and members of the business community, joined by Mayor Ray Rogina officially welcomed Kilwins Chocolates and Ice Cream to St. Charles with a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new location at 132 S. First Street. Owners Rachel and Bob Rasmussen cut the ribbon to officially open their chocolate, fudge and ice cream shop. Guests of the event sampled delicious hot chocolate, fudge, and hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries and watched candy being cooked in a copper kettle.
The experience of watching the craftsmanship of fudge, caramel corn, peanut brittle and caramel apple production has captivated visitors since 1947 when Don and Katy Kilwin opened their first sweet shop. Shop hours are 11:30-8:00 p.m. from Monday-Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:30-9:30 and 12:00-7:30 on Sunday.
