98.7 WFMT will broadcast Elgin Symphony Orchestra (ESO) performances from their November 2016 concerts in January.  Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Suite will air during the noon hour Friday, January 13 and his Swan Lake Suite will air January 20 on Middays with Lisa Flynn, which broadcasts weekdays from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. The ESO has won Illinois Professional Orchestra of the Year from the Illinois Council of Orchestras an unprecedented four times - including in 2016.  To learn more about the ESO, visit ElginSymphony.Org.

Swan Lake is the first of Tchaikovsky’s three ballets. It was not well received when it premiered in 1877 but with its colorful orchestration and unforgettable melodies, it has since earned a permanent place as one of the most treasured ballets of all time. Sleeping Beauty, on the other hand, was an immediate success when it premiered in 1890. Based on Charles Perrault’s fairy tale of a sleeping princess awakened by her dashing prince, it was a favorite of Tchaikovsky. He remarked “I think, dear friend, it is one of my best works. The subject is so poetical.”

Lisa Flynn has been a program host and producer for WFMT since 1991. She presents The New Releases on Sunday mornings and has hosted many programs for the WFMT Radio Network, including War Letters (which won the 2002 Peter Lisagor Award) and a series of live broadcasts from Salzburg to celebrate Mozart’s 250th birthday in 2006.
