Tickets on sale for annual Geneva Steeple Walk

Nov 03, 2016 09:28AM ● Published by Neighbors Magazines

A Geneva tradition continues as the Steeple Walk ushers in the holidays, greeting patrons with a variety of seasonal music concerts at four Geneva churches.

Presented by the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, the eighth annual event will take place from 2 to 4:30pm Sunday, Dec. 4. Two audience groups will attend 20-minute concerts played simultaneously at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St.; and Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. Third St. Following the performances, the groups will switch venues to enjoy the other concert.

Patrons will then walk to the final performances – and similar rotation format – at both the Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva, 102 S. Second St.; and First Church of Christ, Scientist, 111 S. Second St. A Steeple Walk guide escorts the groups to the next church, all within easy walking distance, and shares information about the architecture of each site.

Artists performing at each church include:
  • United Methodist Church: The Geneva High School Jazz Choir, who are chosen through audition, is an outstanding ensemble and has been a Fox Valley favorite.
  • Geneva Lutheran Church: The Misty River Music Makers are the region’s premier a cappella women’s chorus group whose vivacious style has been entertaining audiences for years.
  • Unitarian Universalist Society: Patrons will listen to a piano and violin duet. Pianist Patricia Arzaga is a member of the North Central College Piano Academy. Violinist Elena Spiegel has played in the Chicago Youth Symphony and recently was selected for its elite string group.
  • First Church of Christ, Scientist: Playing Celtic, classical and folk music, Guitarist Tim Lockman’s style has been compared to Gordon Lightfoot and James Taylor.

Steeple Walk tickets cost $12 per person and are available for purchase on the City’s website at www.geneva.il.us/steeplewalk. Tickets also are on sale at the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, 8 S. Third St.; Circa, 123 S. Third St.; or any of the participating churches. Seating is limited, and attendance by children under age 6 is not recommended.

The event caps off Geneva’s popular holiday weekend with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce holding its annual Christmas Walk & House Tour, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3. For more information about the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission, visit www.genevarts.org
