Mayor Schielke and Linda Schielke read holiday stories at the Depot Museum during the 2014 “Celebration of Lights.” Visit the Depot Museum on Nov. 27 to hear stories this year.

Registration Information: Stop by or call the Youth Services Desk, 630-879-1393, ext. 500, for more information and to register. Priority is given to Batavia Public Library cardholders for all programs requiring registration. Unless otherwise noted, registration begins on the first of the month in which the program occurs.

Enjoy playtime with your child and explore our early literacy stations, which include activities with letters, numbers, sequencing, and more.

Holiday Storytime Specials

Babies can enjoy this interactive program which includes songs, nursery rhymes, lap games, and book-sharing. We ask that alternate care arrangements be made outside of class for older siblings.

Join your fellow Minecrafters

for an hour of play on the Library’s Minecraft system. Space is limited. Please show your Batavia Public Library card (required) at the Youth Services Desk to receive your entry ticket. Tickets are given out beginning 15 minutes before the program until gone.

Whether you’re into graphic novels, fantasy, science

fiction, or nonfiction, share what you’re reading with your friends. Join us for snacks, games, and book-related banter.

 

Late Night at the Library    R

Grades 3–5

After-hours program that includes activities, scavenger hunt, pizza, and a guest performer. Parental permission form and $3 per participant are required at registration. Register in person at the Youth Services Desk, beginning Nov. 1. Space is limited. Priority is given to Batavia Public Library cardholders and to students attending Batavia schools.

“Holiday Challenge”

Develop your inner scientist through activities, experiments, and games. Have fun with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We investigate electricity in November and solve a holiday-related challenge in December.

books, or technology that tweens would enjoy and the Library should consider? Join the Batavia Public Library Tween Advisory Board. We meet once a month to plan activities for students at the Library and work on projects. We also eat pizza and have fun! New members

are welcome.

 

Chess Club    R

Learn more about chess and improve your chess skills as we explore strategy and tactics. Basic knowledge of the game is required; however, all skill levels are welcome. A portion of the hour will be spent on strategy, then playing the game using it.

Drop in and build something with our Lego or Duplo bricks. No registration required. Batavia Public

Enjoy indoor games such as Wii, chess, giant Connect Four, and board games. You can bring a game of your own, too, and find a new player to challenge. Stay for all or part of the time.

Trying to decide on a preschool for your child? Stop by the Library for a look at various Batavia and Geneva preschools. The open house format offers parents and caregivers the opportunity to talk to staff from many preschools in one evening, in one location.

 

International Games Day

Did you know that many of the games you play originated in a different country? Stop by to play one of these games and learn about its history. We will feature chess, checkers, mancala, dominoes, marbles, and hopscotch.

The Magic of Gary Kantor

Bring the whole family for a thrilling and entertaining show starring magician Gary Kantor. This show is packed with vanishing acts, mind-reading tricks, and some hilarious tricks. All ages welcome. Doors to the Founders Room open at 10:15am.
