Local First—Small Business Saturday—Shop Local—
Buy Near By
The list of catchy taglines goes on and on all with a similar goal of getting consumers to make a conscious shift on where they spend their hard earned dollars.
Why? What is the real impact of choosing to make a purchase in Downtown Batavia at a locally owned, independent shop as opposed to a big box store?
• If you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays in your local economy. If you spend the same at a large business, only $43 stays in the local economy (Source: Civic Economics Study in Grand Rapids, Michigan).
• Small businesses donate 250% more than larger businesses to non-profits and community causes (Source: Seattle Good Business Network).
So what does this look like here in Batavia?
As you take time to put together your Christmas shopping lists, make sure to think about what you can purchase right here in Downtown Batavia. Be sure to check out some recent additions such as Fawn Gifts, The Tea Tree, Bar Evolution, Buddha, Gandhi & Me and the newly relocated Furniture Dollies. Continue to shop and purchase gift cards from some long standing downtown businesses like For All Occasions, Salvaged Heart Vintage Wares, Limestone Coffee & Tea, and Olmstead’s TV and Appliance. By supporting the already existing local businesses in town, we funnel more and more dollars into the downtown economy and make Downtown Batavia much more attractive to other potential local businesses.
Don’t let Christmas be the only thing that drives you downtown to shop though. These local businesses need our support all year long.
So let’s do it! Shop where your heart is. Right in the heart of this community, Downtown Batavia.
