Playhouse 38, a facility of the Geneva Park District, which is host to the District’s cultural arts program, has moved to 321 Stevens Street, Suite P in downtown Geneva. A ribbon cutting was held on July 8 to celebrate the grand opening of the new, larger location that can accommodate 100 seats per performance.
“We now have the space to accommodate performance prep areas (green room), concession sales, and have improved sound and lighting. Most importantly, this new location is home to a larger stage with a permanent base structure that is ADA accessible,” said Sheavoun Lambillotte, Executive Director.
Playhouse 38 has been growing since its original 2013 opening and now puts on four adult and four youth productions per year. On Aug. 25, the Playhouse held a second grand opening in conjunction with the adult community theatre opening night performance of Calendar Girls.
Upcoming fall productions include Stuart Little Sept. 23–25, the interactive 3rd Annual Murder Mystery: Offed at the Bake-Off Oct. 21–23 and Elf Jr.—The Musical Dec. 9–11 and Dec. 16–18.
In addition to theater programming, Playhouse 38 hosts special events like the Adult Team Spelling Bee. This new event, which takes place Nov. 5 at 6pm, encourages adults interested in spelling to form a team, dress up and compete to win a $300 prize. Prizes will also be awarded in categories such as most creative individual costume and best themed team.
