Marmion's Annual Fine Arts Forum to feature final concert directed by Mr. Stephen Thurlow

The Marmion Academy Fine Arts Department invite all to
attend the 2016 Fine Arts Forum on Thursday, May 12 beginning at 6:30pm. This forum will feature the final
concert directed by Mr. Stephen Thurlow, Marmion Academy's Band Director for
the past 33 years. The program will be presented in the Marmion Academy's
Alumni Hall Gymnasium located at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora. Admission is
free, with free-will donations accepted.
Marmion's Fine Art Forum includes a visual art display of Studio, Digital and Web Design as well as Art Appreciation work from 6:00 - 7:30pm featuring the work of the Marmion Art department under the direction of Lisa Dzuricsko and Jean McLean. At 7:00pm selected works from Kristin Voris' One Acts will be featured. Following this will be the Marmion-Rosary Band, Marmion-Rosary Jazz Ensemble, the Marmion Men's Chorus and the Marmion-Rosary Color Guard.
Band musical selections will include Ralph Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite, Percy Grainger's Irish Tune from County Derry, Bill Whelan's River Dance, Coldplay's Viva La Vida, Hazo's Each Time You Tell Their Story, and Minelli's Rhumbango. Chorus selections include Bohemian Rhapsody arranged by Stephen Thurlow, Come Travel With Me by Scott Farthing, Wana Baraka arranged by Kirchner, and The Music of Living by Dan Forest.
Mr. Thurlow began his work at Marmion in 1983. Before coming to Marmion, he had taught 3 years with the Madison Area Catholic Band Program and two years at Cambria Friesland School District in Wisconsin. Other teaching assignments included teaching horn at North Central College, teaching horn at Blue Lake's Fine Arts Camp, and directing with the Naperville Summer Place. Mr. Thurlow was principal horn with the Fox River Valley Symphony under Harold Bauer from 1988 to 1996. Mr. Thurlow directed the Aurora All City Jazz Ensemble and Musical Exploration from 1996 to 2009 through the City of Aurora. Mr. Thurlow studied horn with Helen Kotas Hirsch (Chicago Symphony), Paul Ingraham (Yale), Doug Hill and Nancy Becknell (University of Wisconsin) and graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison B.M. 76 and M.M. 77. He was a student of band director H.Robert Reynolds at the University of Wisconsin and continued his studies in conducting with Mighty Johnson at St. Olaf. Mr. Thurlow is a member of the A.S.B.D.A, I.L.M.E.A. and W.M.E.A.
The Marmion-Rosary Band is under the direction of Stephen Thurlow and Brian Birch. The Marmion Men's Chorus is under the direction Brian Birch, and the color guard is under the direction of Carrie Huebner and Sam Dedic.
