Marmion Academy will offer a free three-day STEM camp for
middle school students in the Aurora area this June. Support for this camp was
made possible by a $300,000 grant from the Dunham Fund.
Marmion, located at 1000 Butterfield Road in Aurora, will be hosting this camp June 13-15. This second annual Youth Energy Savers (YES) camp will teach sixth, seventh and eighth grade boys and girls about energy and green technology through hands-on experiments and lessons.
Registration is currently open and early sign-ups are encouraged because of the sold-out status of last year's camp. Christian Anderson, Director of Capital Campaigns and Grants at Marmion commented, "Last year's camp was a huge success. Past attendees and others in the Aurora community have been asking when and how they can register. I encourage early registration for those wanting to attend through our website: marmion.org/YES."
The camp lessons and experiments will be developed and taught by members of Marmion's science department, Marmion student volunteers and experts from green technology fields. Chicago based non-profit, Elevate Energy, is excited to participate again in this year's camp. They will be focusing efforts on educating students on how to lower energy consumption and be responsible stewards of the environment.
Anderson said the camp will cover topics such as solar and wind energy, water and hydro-electric energy, biofuel, green buildings and sustainable food production. To register students should visit www.marmion.org/yes or call 630-966-7672.
