Did you know?
In 2014 Batavia MainStreet had over 1700 volunteers donate over 2800 hours to planning and implementing over 60 events and activities, which brought over 60,000 people downtown. Batavia MainStreet is a nonprofit organization focused on community and revitalizing downtown Batavia through dedicated volunteer efforts. Through Batavia MainStreet, our community works on beautification efforts like planters and banners, promotes local businesses and available spaces, creates special events like Art In Your Eye, the Block Party, Taste of Batavia and BatFest, brings the weekly Farmers’ Market to River St. and helps strengthen existing businesses while recruiting new ones. Learn more about Batavia MainStreet and how to get involved by calling the office at 630-761-3528, or visiting us at DowntownBatavia.com.
Bright new faces and a fond farewell—Batavia MainStreet Board of Directors announced Joi Cuartero would be stepping down from her post at Batavia MainStreet at the end of June. Joi has been heavily involved in the community, including being a co-founder of Water Street Studios in downtown Batavia, working tirelessly to lead economic development and revitalization efforts in downtown Batavia.
While Joi will be missed, two new leaders have been named. Jamie Saam will fill the role of executive director and Cathy McNally, the newly created assistant director. Being able to add both Jamie and Cathy to the leadership team has exceeded expectations and puts Batavia MainStreet in a great position to serve our community and fulfill our mission for many years to come. Please feel free to stop by the office to say hello and welcome the new team!
Green Fair on the Fox—The event will take place Sat., Aug. 8 from 9am–3pm at the Batavia Riverwalk, indoors at city hall and across the pedestrian bridge where you can shop the Farmers’ Market until 12pm. Green Fair on the Fox features an eco-marketplace made up of local businesses, organizations and individuals who raise awareness on sustainable living, physical fitness and healthy living. Participants will enjoy food, live music, demonstrations and fun activities.
Cocktails in the Park—It’s back! On Sat., July 25 at 7pm head out to Appleton Park (RIverwalk behind city hall, 100 N. Island Ave.) and enjoy an evening of live music, small bites, drinks and fun. Returning this year is the cigar and whiskey tasting deck with the addition of the champagne and desserts tasting. Attire is casual, and proceeds go towards Downtown Batavia revitalization efforts. Win a tent full of prizes, or an adventure to one of our other favorite downtown communities. Tickets are $25 pre-ordered and $30 the day of the event. Limited picnic tables can be reserved for an additional $100 and includes a bottle of wine or six beers. Tasting decks are reservation only and an additional $40 per person.
Art In Your Eye—Fri.–Sun., Aug. 14–16. Celebrate the arts with an outdoor fine art show, indoor exhibit, demonstrations, try-it tent, youth Shakespeare and activities during the day. Then, enjoy evening entertainment on Friday and Saturday with live music by your favorite local bands. Come out to hear Noah’s Arcade on Friday evening at 6pm as they open for The Hemispheres. Saturday evening starts with Dick Diamond and the Dusters at 6pm and features Modern Day Romeos as the headliner at 8pm.
