Geneva Beautification volunteers needed for fall planting

It will soon be time to grab your trowel and rake and start planting for fall. The Geneva Beautification Committee is recruiting gardeners of all ages to join in the final planting of the season. New volunteers should report to the corner of S. Third and James Street, in front of the Geneva Post Office at 8am on Sat., Aug. 29. They will be given a garden location that could use their help. Volunteers who have already been assigned to a garden can report directly to their garden and begin planting the flowers that have been delivered to their area.
Volunteers are asked to bring garden gloves, pruning shears, rakes, brooms, shovels and trowels. Since the flowers enjoy a slight sprinkling of showers, the planting will continue unless there is a thunderstorm. If rain delays the planting, the rain date is Sun., Aug. 30 at 12:30pm.
Entirely a volunteer effort, the Geneva Beautification Committee consists of individuals, organizations and businesses that adopt, plant and maintain gardens in Geneva’s business district. Students and scouts looking for community service hours can volunteer and receive credit. Dorothy Flanagan, 630-208-0279 (evenings) or Sherri Weitl, 630-232-7494 (daytime). geneva.il.us.
