Cellist advances to national competition

Rosary High School student Alexis Johnson, of Lisle, won the instrumental classical music category at the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) competition in March. She played an excerpt from the Cello Concerto in D minor by Edouard Lalo. Alexis is one of 11 gold medalists who will go on to compete nationally in Philadelphia this summer. She will be a junior at Rosary High School in Aurora in the fall. In addition, Johnson was chosen for the Fox Valley Orchestra Summer 2015 Internship Program for high school students. She will receive a stipend to be used for music purposes.
